Estimate only. The digital SAT is adaptive and College Board does not publish a raw-to-scaled score table, so this range comes from our own approximate model. Your real score depends on which questions you got right. Percentiles are College Board's published table; ACT equivalent uses the 2018 concordance.

How to use the SAT score calculator

  1. Enter your correct answers out of 54 for Reading and Writing and out of 44 for Math. Practice tests in Bluebook show these counts.
  2. Optionally tell the calculator whether your second module felt harder or easier. This narrows the range.
  3. Read the estimated range for each section and the total, then the percentile and ACT equivalent.

This is an estimate, and why

The digital SAT is adaptive. According to College Board, scores reflect the difficulty of the questions answered and the likelihood that an answer pattern reflects guessing, and College Board does not publish a raw-to-scale conversion for it. Our model is an approximate curve of our own: it rises smoothly from 200 to 800, adds about 35 points when the second module is harder, subtracts about 35 and caps near 680 when it is easier, and shows a range because the real result depends on which questions you missed. It is not College Board data. Use your official Bluebook score for decisions.

Digital SAT structure

SectionModulesQuestionsTime
Reading and Writing254 (27 per module)64 min (32 per module)
Math244 (22 per module)70 min (35 per module)
Total498134 min plus a 10-minute break

Each module has 2 pretest questions that do not count toward your score, so 4 of the 54 Reading and Writing questions and 4 of the 44 Math questions are unscored. You cannot tell which, so enter all the questions you answered correctly.

Percentiles and ACT conversion

Percentiles use College Board's nationally representative table, which weights a research sample of US 11th and 12th graders. It looks higher than the pool of students who actually take the SAT, so we show the lookup for the range, not a single rank. ACT equivalents use the official 2018 ACT/SAT concordance.

Frequently asked questions

How is the digital SAT scored?

Each section (Reading and Writing, Math) is scored 200–800 for a 400–1600 total. College Board uses item response theory, so the score depends on the difficulty of the questions you answered correctly, not only on how many you got right. Two students with the same number correct can receive different scores.

Is there an official raw score conversion table for the digital SAT?

No. College Board does not publish a fixed raw-to-scaled table for the adaptive digital SAT, which is why this calculator shows a range from an approximate model instead of one exact number. Your Bluebook score report is the only exact result.

How many questions are on the digital SAT?

Reading and Writing has 54 questions in two 32-minute modules. Math has 44 questions in two 35-minute modules. The whole test is 98 questions in 2 hours 14 minutes. Each module includes 2 unscored pretest questions that you cannot tell apart from scored ones.

What does the second module difficulty do?

After the first module of a section, you get a second module that is easier or harder based on your performance. A harder second module allows a higher maximum score; an easier one tends to cap the section score. The calculator lets you say which you felt you got, which narrows the range.

Is the percentile real?

Yes. Percentiles come from College Board's published SAT nationally representative table. They are looked up from the estimated total range, so they are a range as well.

Does the SAT to ACT conversion still work now that the ACT changed?

ACT states that the 2018 ACT/SAT concordance can still be used with the enhanced ACT, though an update would need data from students who took both the enhanced ACT and the digital SAT. See the SAT to ACT converter for details.
